50% off — half price
Fifty percent off is the clearest discount there is: the sale price is exactly half the original. Divide by 2. That's it. A $200 item at 50% off costs $100. Half-price promotions are the headline of major retail events — Black Friday doorbusters, annual clearance events, and buy-one-get-one-free offers all effectively work out to 50% off.
If you're comparing two "50% off" deals, make sure the original prices are genuine. Retailers sometimes inflate the "original" price before applying a steep discount. Our calculator doesn't know whether the original price is real — that part is up to you.
How to calculate 50% off
Multiply the original price by 0.50 (which is 1 − 50/100):
Sale Price = Original × 0.50
For example, 50% off $200:
$200 × 0.50 = $100.00. You save
$100.00.
